Thief Neck Island

Largest island on the Tennessee River at mile 569, created during the daming of the Tennessee River in the 1940s by the Tennessee Valley Authority to cut out 5 miles of barge traffic. The island is listed as a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Wildlife Management Area -- deer, osprey, hawks, eagles and other animals can be sighted in this area. It sits at an elevation of 500 to 900 feet.
