Activated on July 3rd 1985 on the grounds of the Cape Lisburne Air Force Station, the modern-day Cape Lisburne Long Range Radar Site consists of a single minimally attended AN/FPS-117 radar system operated by the 611th Air Support Group based at Elmendorf AFB. Operating as part of the Alaska Radar System, the site provides radar coverage over the Arctic Ocean and Chukchi Sea in conjunction with LRRS Sites at Kotzebue and Point Barrow.
