Chapel Bar (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / Park Avenue South, 277

1-story building originally completed as a theater in 1867, later known as the Renwick Gem Schoolhouse. Designed by James Renwick Jr., along with the adjoining Calvary Church directly to the south, it was only used as a theater for a short time before being utilized for the Calvary Church Sunday school. It has a large interior space, about 27 feet between the columns, which were designed to hold up the heavy slate roof without the use of exterior buttresses. From 2011 the building housed the 4th and 5th grade classes of the École Internationale de New York, and was occupied by the Swedish photography museum Fotografiska, who also leased the building to the north, from 2019-2024.

It remains the Chapel Bar.
