Parkchester's shopping district is a major destinations in the Bronx, boasting the second Macy's in NYC, as well as a movie theatre, grocery stores, clothing stores, jewelery, and numerous restaurants. It is also a highly residential district, with numerous apartment and condominium buildings, most of which were once owned by Helmsley Spears. The apartment buildings are ornamented with terra-cotta figures at the top corners, nearly unique in period architecture. Parkchester is home to a large, ethincally diverse population.
