Estate home designed by Peabody, Wilson and Brown c. 1920 in the Tudor style and built by E.W. Howell for James Averall Clark, Sr .{financier}. Clark was a member of the Clark, Dodge & Co. and Dixon & Co. stock brokerages. He also was a member of the London office of the American Red Cross during WWII. Ellen Biddle Shipman did landscaping in 1920.

Clark's wife, Helen, was daughter of Thomas Hitchcock, Sr. who resided at nearby "Broad Hollow Farm" and was purchased by Helen after James Clark's death. The estate was profiled in "Town & Country" for Jan. 1929, pgs. 42-45.
