Asarlаka or Kaleto is the modern designation of an Early Medieval fortress located about 4.5 km southwest of the modern village of Belovec. The site occupies a largely overgrown cliff terrace above the local river, and was primarily fortified from the north and east, relying on the natural cliffs for defense to the south. The fortress was erected and used during the First Bulgarian Empire and continued to exist under Byzantine rule (after 971/1001 in the area), but was apparently abandoned during the depredations of nomadic raiders during the second half of the 11th century. The remains are poorly preserved.
