apartment building, commercial building
4-story/3-story mixed residential-commercial building originally completed as four separate structures in 1877, now joined internally. The three facing the avenue have matching facades, clad in beige-painted brick above ground-floor storefronts of metal and glass with grey granite paneled piers. The upper floors have three bays of single-windows at each section, with simple stone sills and beige metal cornices. The taller 2nd-floor windows have been replaced at the southern facade by smaller ones without cornices. A black metal fire escape runs down the 3rd & 4th bays from the north end, and the roof line is marked by three matching black metal roof cornices with brackets and panels.
The south facade on 45th Street is also beige brick on the upper floors; the ground floor is clad in grey granite. At the west end are five bays of 3-over-3 windows in green metal framing. In the middle are two garage doors with roll-down metal gates, and at the east end is a commercial entrance with a glass door (next to a high, horizontal window), and the entrance to the residential upper floors with another glass door.
The upper floors of the south facade have four floors at the west and east ends, dropping down to only three floors in the middle, above the garage doors. The west section has four bays of single-windows, with 2nd floor's west end bay shifted over closer to the corner and having a narrower opening. The roof line is marked by a black metal cornice. The 3-story middle section has four bays of single-windows, spaced closer together. The east end section also has four single-windows, with the openings on the 4th floor bricked-in, and the cornice removed.
The exposed north facade is clad in red-painted brick with no openings on the upper floors. The ground floor is occupied by George Breslaw & Sons Plumbing, and Sunrise Marketplace.
