2-tower residential complex completed in 1976. Designed by David Todd & Associates, is consists of two 46-story towers at opposite ends of the block, partially surrounded by low-rise bases and connected by a 2-story middle section that includes a parking garage and has a racquet club on top. The long connecting section is clad in concrete and the same rust-red brick as the towers. There are three wide entrance/exits to the parking garage near the middle of the south facade on 42nd Street. At the west end, next to the western tower, is the 3-story Manhattan Plaza Health Club. On the north side, the facade is set back with a long, landscaped pedestrian plaza running along 43rd Street. At the east end of the plaza there is a long, 4-story, 8-bay-wide, low-rise building connected by a small 1-story section to the eastern tower. The 4-story section has a recessed ground floor with cream-colored columns supporting the upper floors. The ground floor is occupied by Adella restaurant, Morning Star News, and the Little Pie Company. The ground floor below the health club is occupied by The Food Emporium. The complex has a total of 1,689 apartment units; 70% of the tenants are from the performing arts.
