Rifle Range, also known as Padang Tembak in Malay, is a neighbourhood within the city of George Town. It lies at the northern corner of the Ayer Itam suburb, 6.4km west of the city centre.
The neighbourhood was the site of a British Army shooting range in the 1950s. In 1968, the Rifle Range Flats, Penang's first low-cost apartments, were constructed. To this day, Rifle Range has been a predominantly Chinese working-class neighbourhood.
Rifle Range is also home to the base for Federal Reserve Unit 3, a riot police unit under the Royal Malaysian Police.
