Sungai Ara is a neighbourhood within the city of George Town. Located within the Bayan Lepas suburb, Sungai Ara is located approximately 11.4km south of the city centre. The neighbourhood is named after Sungai Ara, a tributary of Sungai Keluang.

The original village of Sungai Ara still exists at the junction of Jalan Tengah and Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim. Formerly a rural agricultural area, Sungai Ara witnessed rapid development following the construction of the nearby Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (FIZ). Today, Sungai Ara has become a booming residential neighbourhood, catering mostly to the employees of the Bayan Lepas FIZ.
