Sweetwater 1 & 2 Wind Farm is located both east and west of State Highway 70 about 7-12 miles south of central Sweetwater, Texas. It is the amalgamation of two prior wind farms which were repowered (ie: upgraded / refurbished) in 2017. The original wind farms were Sweetwater 1 (2003, 25 GE 1.5sle turbines, possibly the 25 on the east side of the highway) and Sweetwater 2 (2005, 61 GE 1.5sle turbines, possibly the 61 to the west of the highway). The "new improved" wind farm consists of a mix of 86 GE Energy turbines (25 of model 1.5-82.5, 52 of model 1.6-91 and 9 of model 1.62-87) mounted atop the same towers as the original turbines. The total nominal capacity of the repowered wind farm is 135.28 MW, only slightly more than the originals' 129 MW but with new and more efficient components.
