Capricorn Ridge Wind Farm is located north and east of Sterling City, which is on US Highway 87 about 40 miles southeast of Big Spring, Texas. It sits east of Texas Highway 163 (TX-163) up to 14 miles north of Sterling City and both north and south of TX-158 up to 11 miles to the east.
It was commissioned in two phases (2007 and 2008). Part 1 of phase I was constructed with 65 Siemens SWT-2.3-93 turbines and is located in the south-central part of the wind farm, wholly south of TX-158; these turbines are labelled as "Capricorn Ridge - Siemens". Part 2 of phase I was constructed with 145 GE Energy 1.5sle turbines and is split into a 'far north' section (70 turbines) and a 'far east' section (75 turbines); these turbines are labelled as "Capricorn Ridge - GE". Phase II sits in the central and western part of the wind farm and was constructed with 197 GE 1.5sle turbines; these turbines are labelled as "Capricorn Ridge - Expansion". The combined generating capacity of all 407 wind turbines is 662.5 MW.

In 2017, all the turbines were upgraded to have longer blades. The GE turbines were given blades with a rotor diameter of 91 m (and some with 87 m), and the Siemens turbines 108 m. As a result the wind farm now contains 314 of GE 1.5-91, 28 of GE 1.5-87 and 65 of SWT-2.3-108. The generating capacity is unchanged.
