cinema, apartment building
6-story cooperative-apartment building completed in 1903. Designed by L.C. Holden as a warehouse and factory, it is four bays wide, clad in red brick above a dark-green cast-iron ground floor with paneled columns. The windows of the upper floors have splayed stone lintels and are connected by stone sill courses. The facade is topped by a corbelled brick parapet. The ground floor and basement are occupied by Quad Cinema, New York's first 4-screen movie theater, which opened in 1972. The building was also converted to a cooperative in 1976.
