5-story commercial building completed in 1908 as a stable and loft building. Designed by Kafka & Lindenmeyr, it is clad in white stone on the upper floors. The 2-story base has been refaced with brown granite, with bands of red granite on the 2nd-floor piers. The front facade is divided into three bays, with three windows in the outer bays and two in the center bay. Above the middle bay on the 2nd floor is a projecting trapezoidal shape with a red granite circle in its center. The upper floors have rusticated outer piers, and cast-iron mullions. There are paneled spandrels between the 4th & 5th floors, and Chinese characters affixed to the facade between the 3rd & 4th floors. The front facade is crowned by a bracketed roof cornice. The longer side elevation facing Lafayette Street is visible above the 1-story building to the west. It is clad in red brick in a grid of parged surfaces; at one time another building stood adjoining this wall, but was torn down in the mid-1900s. 245 Canal does have one bay of single windows at the rear of this side elevation. A Buddhist temple is located on the 2nd floor.
