5-story residential building completed in 1887. Designed by William Graul, it has been heavily remodeled. The ground floor was smooth-stuccoed, painted red, and given a round-arched entryway. The ornament of the upper floors, clad in red brick, has been removed, and a stepped parapet with stone coping replaces the original roof cornice. The center windows are in a slightly recessed panel extending the height of the building. The next-door building at No. 44 was also designed by Graul and built the same year, showing what No. 42 looked like when completed.
