 apartment building, 1840s construction

7-story cooperative-apartment building originally completed in 1848 as a 3-story townhouse for H. Coleman. In the late 1800s, the stoop was removed and the basement raised to creative a street-level entrance. The first two floors, now unified with white smooth-stuccoed facing, are enriched by a handsome three-sided, two-story angled bay, through which one enters by an iron grille door at the lower level, with a large diamond-light bay window flanked by arched niches at second floor level, where it is painted black. This central theme is continued upward by a small stone balcony with wrought iron railing at the fourth floor. In 1950 two additional setback floors were constructed on top, above the dentiled cornice, with chamfered corners on the top floor.
