A pair of 4-story Greek-revival residential buildings completed together in 1839 as identical 3-story townhouses, both three bays wide. They have undergone different alterations since. No. 78 had a fourth floor added in the late 1800s, with a high mansard roof and dormer windows crowned by drip moldings and pediments. No. 80 also had a story added, but of a later date, with a mullioned studio window placed on center beneath a deeply hooded cornice, supported by profiled beam ends. This house was also modernized with a basement entrance in place of the stoop, whose doorway has a broken pediment supported by vertically-placed console brackets, with a small square window above it.

The eastern house has been faced in smooth stucco, painted pale red, while the western house has a renovated red brick facade. Composer and band leader John Philip Sousa lived for a time at No. 80.
