 high-rise, apartment building, 1931_construction, Beaux-Arts (architecture)

16-story Beaux-Arts residential building completed in 1931 for Eugene Silber, a developer. Designed by Van Wart & Wien, its first two floors are faced with stone forming a base which extends up to third floor sill level. The upper floors are clad in brown brick, with swagged panels appearing under most of the windows while stone balconies are located on the forward-projected portion on either side of the front door. The facade corners also have brown brick quoins, carried up to the setbacks of the top floors.

A parapet with urns and an arched octagonal cupola tower, with pilasters, surmount the whole, and both the Christopher and Greenwich facades are of the same general design. The ground floor is occupied by NYC T-shirts, Village 1 cigar shop, Zachary's Smile boutique, Mr. Joseph's hairstylists, and Hector's shoe repair.
