The structure of the antic settlement is going back to the Greek-Roman period, It reached its peak in the Byzantine times 4th till 6th century. Most impressive is the remains of the sacred architecture with the St.Mary's basilica (5th century) and the Northern basilica (6th century) which prove that Christianity was dominating northern Syria at these times.
