The 2X3 km wide area of the site gives proof of the importance of the former city of Kapropera, the biggest settlement in Jebel Zawiya in Byzantine period. The rise of the town began in the 4th century and reached its peak in the 6th century. The production of oliveoil and wine was the economic base of the development of this christian community and the ruins of 5 basilicas give proof of the devoutness of the population. Mainly due to earthquakes most of the buildings collapsed, nevertheless some remains are worth visiting, especially the two mausoleums.
