 office building  Add category

6-story Renaissance-revival office building completed in 1891. Designed by O.G. Bennet as a factory and lofts for William F. Chrystie, it is clad in red brick above a limestone ground floor. During the widening of Elm (now Lafayette) Street in 1897-98, the building was reduced in width and the west facade was rebuilt in a similar manner as the existing facade on Grand Street. The building was extended to the north in 1899, the new facade replicating the existing west and south facades. It alternates sections of projecting and non-projecting wall, each four bays wide - except for the end bays, which have two window openings. The south facade fronting Grand Street is four bays wide. There is a stone cornice above the 2nd floor, and the windows have eared stone lintels. The top-floor windows are round-arched, and the roof line has a corbelled brick parapet. A pair of red metal fire escapes are located near the ends of the Lafayette Street facade. The ground floor is occupied by We Work Lounge, Little King jewelry, and The Color House imaging lab.
