5-story Italianate office building completed in 1865 as a store-and-loft building for J.W. Southack, a furniture and mattress manufacturer, with a sixth story added in 1895. The Broadway facade above the ground floor is faced in white rusticated marble and consists of double-height "sperm candle" arcades with round-arches. Stories within each arcade are separated by carved spandrels. A marble cornice with large modillions and end brackets caps the 5th floor.

The later-dated 6th floor has three segmental-arched dormer windows. The original ground floor facade was covered over by dark-grey metal panels in the mid-1900s. The Cortlandt Alley elevation of the building is faced in red brick above a high base with black cast-iron bay framing. Also surviving at the base are paneled bulkheads. A historic fire escape remains, as do some multipane, double-hung kalamien sash. Iron shutters have been removed from the window openings.

In the 1940s the building was occupied by shirt manufacturers, and in the 1960s by the A. Schapp & Sons wholesale clothing company. It is currently occupied by various fabric and textile companies and offices.
