This camp was first set on October 22, 2016 in anticipation of internally-displaced refugees from the Battle of Raqqa in mid 2017. The camp contains 36,000 displaced Syrians, the majority from Raqqa and Deir ez-Zur provinces. The camp is operated by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria under the supervision of UNHCR and IRD.
The camp was completely evacuated in early October, 2019 due to threats of Turkish occupation and air bombing in the vicinity. During the attacks of the "National Army" mercenaries, around 785 of the "Daesh" (ISIS) family members, including those of foreign origin, who were stationed here, escaped from the camp. Most of them then settled in the territories occupied by Turkey/mercenaries. About 90 ISIS families from among those who escaped from the camp were catched up in the following months in various SDF-controlled areas by the "Asayish" security forces.
