Mantaritsa is a biosphere reserve with Ordinance No.960 from 08.06.1968 by the Ministry of Forestry and Forest Industry.
Area: 1069.2 hectares.
The Mantaritsa Reserve is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designated under "Man and the Biosphere" (MAB) Programme. The area of the reserve is included within the boundaries of a potential Zapadni Rodopi/Western Rhodopes Protected Area (BG0002063), part of the Natura 2000 European Ecological Network.
