"Kladara" Castle

Bulgaria / Burgas / Malko Tarnovo /
ruined castle, archaeological site, Medieval / Middle Ages, invisible, ancient ruins

The ruined and overgrown Thracian, Roman, and Medieval fortress of Kladara is located on the Kaleto Hill formed by a meander of the Rezovska River about 1 km southeast of Slivarovo Village on Bulgaria's southern border with Turkey. The summit of the hill is 233 m a.s.l. The fortress has a double fortified perimeter: the outer wall is made of quarried stones without mortar, characteristic of Thracian fortifications; the inner wall (stone, brick, and mortar construction) was probably erected in Late Antiquity.
