Erkesia is an old border defence bank in South East Bulgaria. It was build in the 8-th century by the time of Bulgarian Khan Tervel, for protecting Bulgaria from Byzantium. It is about 142 km long and the best preserved rampart in Bulgaria. It is among the longest in Europe. Today remains of it still can be seen.
