A dock was constructed on this site in 1832 just after commencement of regular steamboat service to Oyster Bay in 1830. Service continued for 40 years at this site. While the site and the road leading to it are still know as Steamboat Landing, steamboat traffic moved from this location when a new wharf was constructed to the west at the foot of South Street in 1880.
