Owned by Townsend Cock in the late 18th early 19th century and then by descent in the Townsend family.
Cock was the last owner of "Messenger" and it was at his farm that Messenger colicked and died on January 28, 1808. He was buried at the farm, his fame as a stallion required that he be honored as a fallen hero with a military salute of guns. In the early part of the Twentieth Century, a bronze plaque honoring his memory was placed on a boulder near the location of his grave at the entrance to the farm, now known as "Messenger Hill Farm."
