This is one of the main factories in the DPRK for its rail cars (locomotive) for its national railway. It is frequently cited as being one of the most modern and efficient industrial operations in the DPRK. It produces electric and diesel locomotives, railway track and passenger cars. Kim Jong-tae, for whom the factory is named, was a south Korean affiliated with the the illegal Unification Party who was executed by the ROK in 1969.
