The Houston Zoo is a 55-acre zoological park located within Hermann Park in Houston, Texas.

Operated by the non-profit Houston Zoo, Inc., it houses over 4,500 animals belonging to more than 900 species. The zoo receives an estimated 1.6 million visitors each year, making it the seventh most visited zoo in the U.S., and is accredited by The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

The zoo originally opened in 1921, when the city purchased an assortment of snakes, birds, and alligators, and erected a fence around a tract of land in Hermann Park to house the collection.
