Baytown, "where oil and water really do mix", is the fourth-largest city in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area, located on the north shore of Galveston Bay, mostly within Harris County (with a small portion in Chambers County).

Incorporated in 1948 (after the towns of Goose Creek, Pelly, and East Baytown agreed to merge into one city), Baytown's economy is largely tied to the petrochemical industry, including ExxonMobil's Baytown Refinery.

As of the 2010 US Census, Baytown had a total population of 71,802.
