American Iron & Metal

In 2002, Montreal based, American Iron & Metal(AIM) established a small metal sorting and transfer facility exporting 50,000 metric tonnes of scrap metal annually. The operation involved the collection, sorting, weighing, processing and recycling ferrous metal including scrap iron and steel as well as copper, aluminum, stainless steel and other alloys.

After signing a new 40 year lease, AIM is undertaking a $30 million expansion with the installation of a metal shredder capable of shredding up to 720 cars a day and other metals into small fist sized pieces. The pieces will be separated into categories and moved by electro-magnetic cranes and sold in Italy, Egypt and China. The cars are already crushed when delivered to the site.
