Established in 1956 as an Intermediate or "I" site in the POW Sector of the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line, the POW-C or Point McIntyre DEW Line site was one of four "Gap Filler" sites in the sector tasked with monitoring low-level airspace not covered by the long range sites. Serving in this role for the Auxiliary Sites at Oliktok Point (POW-2) and Flaxman Point (POW-3), POW-C was manned by approximately 5 full-time staff who attended to the operation of the site's AN/FPS-23 radar system and tropospheric scatter communication systems.

Idled and abandoned at the close of the 1963 Summer season as its radar system was declared obsolete, the site remained abandoned and unused for nearly 40 years before being razed and environmentally remediated in the late 1990's as part of Operation Clean Sweep. Today the site is used as a staging and support area for oil exploration firms operating in the vicinity.
