The Antique Forum Augusta Traiana tells the story of the glorious Roman times and the magnificence of an entire epoch. The Forum was built no later than 3rd century AD and it filled the old city with the rattle of the gladiators' armor and weaponry along with the rising voices of the Roman musicians and actors. The archaeological complex spans over 7 decares and includes a plaza with an amphitheater, thermal baths, fortress walls, a Western gate and part of the main commercial street.
The Forum was located in the center of the city and it represented a cultural and entertainment center for its inhabitants. The Roman city Augusta Traiana was named after the Emperor Trajan (98 - 117 AD) and it existed between 2nd and 4th century AD The city was the second biggest administrative, commercial and production center in the Thrace Province.
