Seat of the provincial government, this Beaux-Arts style building was designed by Edward and W.S. Maxwell of Montreal. Construction begin in 1908 and the building opened in 1912. It is fashioned after several other provincial legislative and state capital buildings, with an portico entrance, dome and rotunda. The exterior is clad in Tyndall stone.
