The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament, is the meeting place of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which is made up of the House of Lords (south half) and the House of Commons (north half). Although part of the building dates from 1097, most of it was built in 1834 after the old building was destroyed in a fire. It is an example of the Gothic revival style and contains the clock tower that is an important London landmark. It is located at the south end of the government district of Whitehall.
