Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve has been declared on 30.03.2005 with a view to save the unique bio-diversity existing here. The Amarkantak Sactuary [551.15 sq.km.]is deliniated as the most sensitive Core Area where no human activity is permitted as per UN resolution of MAB 1974 (SM).

This is also a Tiger Reserve established in 2008-09 by the name ' Achanakmar Tiger Reserve' covering a Total area of 914.017 sq. Km.

  • 1) Is human activity really stopped, or it is just on paper ? 2) Is there any long term preservation effort, like wide scope sampling ? 3) Human control is unreliable, but samples if preserved scientifically can help to recreate the original species at least partially in future. It is the only feasible means of preserving biological heritage for future generations, since no one can stop explosive growth of human population which inevitably will over come all controls and destroy the environment.
