Satna is a city in central India, in northeastern Madhya Pradesh, adjacent to the Tons River. It is the administrative headquarters of Satna District. It was previously a British station, the headquarters of the political agent for Baghelkhand.
Satna's industries include cement manufacturing, handloom weaving, flour, oilseed milling, and the distribution of agricultural and fabric products via road and rail junction. There are several college campuses of the central Awadesh Pratap Singh University along with it their is an Engineering college (V.I.T.S) which is affliated to RGPV University. Nearby, at Bharhut, are the remains of a 2nd century BC Buddhist stupa, first discovered in 1873.
Satna is the nearest railway head (station) to Khajuraho (declared world heritage destination). The Indian Railways (North-Central) has Satna under it, also centrally located a healthy rail service is there and used by the tourists.
