condominium, Art Deco (architecture)
120-foot, 10-story Art-Deco residential building completed in 2019. Designed by Roman and Williams, it is notably clad in deep green terra-cotta, with copper mullions and window frames. The vivid green cladding was manufactured by Boston Valley Terra Cotta. A green marble water table anchors the base of the ground floor.
At the far west end is a freight entrance with copper doors, followed by the main entrance, with bronze-framed glass double-doors, sidelights, and transoms below a bronze canopy. In the middle are three plate-glass window bays, the center one widest. The west end of the ground floor has a commercial entrance that matches the residential entrance (but without the canopy), and another plate-glass window bay.
The 2nd floor has seven bays of windows that are subdivided into narrow panes by primary and intermediate copper mullions. The 2nd bays from each side are the widest, with the center bay the second-widest. Each bay is separated by a terra-cotta pier, with those framing the widest bays being slightly projecting.
The upper floors have two wide middle bays of casement windows, both subdivided by copper mullions into four sets of 2-over-3 window panes. The end bays have two sets of 2-over-3 window panes. The four main piers have narrow, angled, projecting centers, while the smaller middle pier has a different style of angled projection at its center. The spandrels between floors are fluted.
There is a shallow setback above the 7th floor, deeper at the end bays. The middle of the top floor has a wide bay of three window sections, with another on either side that has a recessed balcony on the 8th floor and then another setback to meet the end bays.
The building's name refers to a road in Chelsea that no longer exists. The road was in turn named for a British Lieutenant General named Charles Fitzroy who lived in Greenwich Village in the 18th Century. The building contains 14 condominium units.
