Opened in 1967, the 33-story , 407 feet-tall skyscraper was designed by Edward Durrell Stone and was known as the "ITM Building" (International Trade Mart). Until 2011, it was the World Trade Center of New Orleans, housing numerous foreign consulates and the headquarters for the Port of New Orleans. It sat vacant for nearly ten years, until 2018, when work began to convert it to a luxury hotel, which opened in 2021.

  • No idea who enetered the heading, but I took the photo. This is what is now known as the WTC, or World Trade Center, fitting for a city in the United (I wonder if that title is actual accurate since Hurricane Katrina) States that features one of the largest ports in the country and ranks among the largest in the world. This building was originally called the International Trade Mart and still has a round top that features a lounge that revolves, giving a great view of the entire region. The loung has been many, many different clubs over the years and I'm sure will eventually, once again, settle down to be a cool place regardless of what it's currently called, to meet friends and watch the city and the river pass by. WGNO TV was located in this building and still uses the roof for their broadcast antennae. Keep in mind that the top of the building rotates continuously, so mounting a broadcast antennae on top required special engineering.
  • I forgot to mention that many different factions have been trying for some time to turn this building into a hotel/resort, as Harrah's Casino recently won approval to renovate some local buildings (which were under historical scrutiny) into a hotel and I must say they did a wonderful job (see Harrah's Hotel entry). Nonetheless, the developers have never quite been able to turn this one around. Perhaps it will happen in the near future as New Orleans appears to be coming back despite the federal government's neglect of them (financially). Seems America wants and NEEDS an adult playground and they are not willing to let New Orleans go just yet!
