First permanent military garrison constructed by the U.S. Army in New Orleans after the War of 1812.
Originally had a brick walled perimeter with round towers at each corner for light cannon, two of which still remain.
Still in use by the Louisiana National Guard.
The oldest building, located at the North end of the site, dates to 1834 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
