Uptown is a large area of New Orleans, Louisiana. Uptown encompasses a number of neighborhoods on the East Bank of the Mississippi River between the French Quarter and the Jefferson Parish line which were developed in the 19th century. Uptown has one of Greater New Orleans' most diverse populations in terms of economics, race, and ethnic groups. It remains an area of mixed residential and small commercial properties, with a wealth of 19th century architecture.

Uptown/Carrolton [planning district 3] (Audubon/University area, Black Pearl, Broadmoor, Dixon, Hollygrove, East Carrolton, Freret, Leonidas, Marlyville/Fontainebleau, Uptown, West Riverside) -- River bend area is here too;

Central City/Garden District [Planning District 2] (Central City, East Riverside, Garden District, Irish Channel, Lower Garden District, Milan, Touro, St. Thomas Development);

CBD [Planning District 1--Upper Side of Canal] -- Some start Uptown at Canal, but most don't call it uptown until you pass the Pontchartrain Expressway essentially cutting the CBD/Central Business District from the Lower Garden District
