Maple Ridge was the fourth city in all of British Columbia to be incorporated, back in 1874 (?). Maple Ridge is a great place to live, with lots of greenspace and parks, a nice mix of new and old homes, a vibrant, young population, and a growing commercial area. Commuting to Vancouver from Maple Ridge is as easy as hopping on the West Coast Express from one of our two stations and sitting back and relaxing for the 50 minute ride.

Maple Ridge has more than 100 kilometers of bike-riding, hiking, and equestrian trails, as well as being the equestian capital of Canada. Maple Ridge has many family-oriented parks, programs, and events, like our Leisure Centre with it's 3 large pools, two of them being lap pools, and two hot-tubs and water slide.

Every saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm we have our Haney Farmers Market in the Memorial Peace Park uptown.
During the summers, we have our Carribean Festival at the Memorial Peace Park, and Music on the Wharf, located on the Port Haney Wharf.

Some great places to recreate are at the Kanaka Creek Regional Park, which has over 10 kilometres of hiking trails, picnic areas, and great Riverfront views. There's also Whonnock Lake, just East of 272nd Street, which is a beautiful place, great for swimming in the summers, because the lake is warm, due to the maximum depth of 10 feet. In the winters, it freezes over, and is a great place to ice-skate, but only if it is approved by the Fire Department. We have Maple Ridge Park, on the Allouette River, which has a spray park, and a brand-new playground. Golden Ears Provincial Park, just north of town is the most popular camping area in all of Metro Vancouver. In Golden Ears Park, there are a variety of trails, varying in difficulty from the easy nature trails to the two-day long hike up to the peaks of the Golden Ears Mountains, where you can see all of the Lower Mainland, right down south to Bellingham, USA, east to Chilliwack, and West to the Vancouver Island. Looking North you see more mountain peaks.

We also have the brand-new Golden Ears Bridge, making access to the south side of the Fraser River so much easier, cutting travel times to Langley, Surrey, the American border, Vancouver International Airport, the ferry terminal with access to the Vancouver Island.

The new bridge also brings new job opportunities to Maple Ridge's citizens.
This is all coming from a guy who's lived in Maple Ridge for all his life. It's a great place to live, visit, work, and make friends.

PS: Maple Ridge is the first city in British Columbia to have all it's minor roads listed on Wikimapia!
