A gun battery that at one time had two 16-pounder guns. It also has a covered turret that has gun holes on all sides to see the trench outside the walls from all angles and an observation platform. Also, there are two underground magazine storage rooms, and a gunner cover room just to the left (right on the map) of the battery.
The South Battery has been designated a Federal Heritage Building.
