Point Pleasant Park is located in the historic South End of Halifax. In 2003 it suffered severe damage to its trees and landscape because of hurricane Juan. Though there were some funds allocated from various levels of government towards the restoration of the park, Halifax deputy mayor, Sue Uteck, complained in early 2007 that there was a lack of support from the federal government to restore the park's trees. Weeks later, the federal Conservative party announced that it would spend $1,000,000 to replace trees on the British-owned park.
