A component of CFB Halifax, Damage Control School contains an administration building and DCTF Kootenay, which is a newly constructed state of the art Fire and Damage Control facility. Using computer controls and propane driven fires the facility is a vast improvement over earlier fire and flood training facilities. Named after HMCS KOOTENAY, a Canadian warship who experienced a deadly fire in 1969, DCTF KOOTENAY is nearly identical to DCTF Galiano the West coast Damage Control and Fire facility which was named after the only Canadian warship lost during the First World War.
