Comments

  • In the early days of propeller-driven trans-Atlantic flights, either Goose Bay or Gander (Newfoundland) was a required refueling stop on trips between the USA and Europe.
  • ...and then either Reykjavik or Keflavik, in Iceland. the longest over-ocean flight then was about 1800 miles, i think.
  • I was tdy here in winter 77 from Pease AFB. We'ed go from barracks to chow hall to bowling alley to NCO club through underground tunnels.NCO club always had a rock band.Flight line was freezing cold. Coldest I ever seen.USAF had KC-135's on alert. At 22 yrs old I had a good time anyway.Northern lights were amazing.
