IATA: YAW – ICAO: CYAW
12 Wing Shearwater is a Canadian Forces heliport operated by the Canadian Forces Air Command. Formerly known as CFB Shearwater, the base was downsized in the late 90's to the status of heliport, with all fixed wing operations (including the annual Nova Scotia International Air Show) being withdrawn from the airfield.
The footprint was reduced with part of the airfield including the large runway 16/34 being sold off to Canada Lands Company.

However, over the years, Shearwater has repurchased it's land from CLC, with the finally acreage (rwy 16/34 and adjoining lands) being repurchased as of April 3, 2009. A search of CLC's website shows no properties owned by CLC in Nova Scotia. It is not yet known what CFB Shearwater plans to do with it's reacquired land.

At present the CH-124 Sea King is the only aircraft operated out of Shearwater.
The CH-148 Cyclone was announced as the successor to the Sea King, and new hangars, support buildings and infrastructure are presently being constructed. The former runway 10/28 has been closed and partly converted into taxiways and helopads. A new shorter runway 16/34 has been opened on the former taxiways Alpha and Delta.
