  • In the early days of propeller-driven Trans-Atlantic flights, either Gander or Goose Bay (Labrador) was a required refueling stop on trips between the USA and Europe.
  • ...and then either Reykjavik or Keflavik, in Iceland. the longest over-ocean flight then was about 1800 miles, i think.
  • It was this route across the Atlantic or the safer but much longer route down to west Africa, across to Brazil, and back up to the USA.
