  • Before the water treatment plant was built, raw sewage was simply pumped through a big elevated pipe & dumped into the center of a large man-made pond. There was at least one other large pond adjacent to it, but it was not unusual for water to overflow the containment ponds and run into the surrounding desert. In the 1960's, the ponds were collectively referred to as Sh*t Lake, and were rumored to contain various stolen bicycles, motorcycles, and even cars.
